New Hope, Moss Point go 4-0 at Rush/MCC

Fourteen teams trekked to Sammie Davidson Complex Saturday for the annual Rush/Meridian Community College high school slow-pitch softball tournament.
Of the 14, two left the day with 4-0 marks. Teams were guaranteed four games and no tournament champion was crowned due to the MHSAA limit of games allowed.
Included in the field were three defending state champions New Hope in Class 4A, West Lauderdale in Class 3A, and Union in Class 1A.
Third-ranked New Hope and eighth-ranked Moss Point were the day's big winners as they left with four wins in as many games.
New Hope defeated Petal (10-9), Union (11-1), Poplarville (12-3), and Newton County (11-4).
Moss Point knocked off Southeast Lauderdale (8-4), Meridian (9-6), Northeast Lauderdale (9-4), and top-ranked West Lauderdale (12-10).
The Lady Knights of West Lauderdale finished 3-1 as did Newton County.
West defeated Brandon (13-6), Poplarville (12-5), and Picayune (8-7), before losing to Moss Point.
Newton County knocked off Northeast Lauderdale (10-1), Picayune (14-1), and Poplarville (10-1) before falling to New Hope as a season-high seven-game winning streak was snapped.
Union knocked off No. 13 Meridian (3-2) before losing 11-1 to New Hope and 5-2 to East Webster. The Lady Jackets closed with a 23-13 win over Enterprise.
Finishing the day at 1-3 were Meridian, Northeast Lauderdale, Enterprise, Southeast Lauderdale, Petal, and Poplarville.
Meridian lost its first three games before beating Petal (16-6). Enterprise opened with a 3-2 win over Southeast Lauderdale before losing its final three games. Northeast knocked off East Webster (15-9) after the Lady Trojans dropped their first three games. Southeast turned back Petal (7-6) in nine innings in its third game of the day.
None of the teams finished winless.
