PHILADELPHIA Neshoba Central may have relinquished its spot in the state's Top 15 poll according to The Clarion-Ledger, but it didn't keep the Lady Rockets from turning in their most impressive week on the diamond this year.
Neshoba opened the week with a 1-0 Division 4-4A win at third-ranked New Hope on Tuesday and followed it with a 9-3 league win over Northeast Lauderdale at Lady Rockets Field on Thursday.
The two wins up Neshoba's overall record to 14-6 and its league mark to 5-1. Northeast dropped to 9-10 and 2-3.
It was fitting that on Senior Night, the three Lady Rocket seniors left-center fielder Kady Chandler, first baseman Samantha Giambrone, and shortstop Jessi Nowell combined to go 4-for-9, score two runs, and drive in four runs. Defensively, the trio combined to record 13 outs.
Chandler had a pair of sliding catches in the outfield to take away Lady Trojan hits.
Whitnee White went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to lead Neshoba. She drove in two of the Lady Rockets' four runs in the first inning with a triple to right field.
Sondria Hillie beat out a pair of infield hits in going 3-for-4. Chandler was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Nowell was 2-for-3, Giambrone had two RBIs, and Leah Dennis scored three runs. Leigh Ann Taylor had a triple and Laura Smith had an RBI single.
Shortstop Meagan Winborn was Northeast's only multiple hitter as she went 2-for-3 with a double. Kara Hull had a two-run triple that took a bad hop over Taylor's head in right field and Savannah Hall had an RBI single.
Rebecca Watkins got the win with Kaley Hull taking the loss.
Northeast returns to action Saturday in the Rush/MCC High School Invitational Tournament at the Sammie Davidson Complex. Neshoba goes to Carthage Saturday before hosting Noxubee County in a makeup game on Monday.
