Fourteen teams will be competing in the annual Rush/Meridian Community College Invitational High School slow-pitch softball tournament Saturday at the Sammie Davidson Complex.
Thirteen teams were originally scheduled to participate, but East Webster was added due to a mixup in communication during the hurricane last week while schools were out. Head coach of the Lady Wolverines is former Union and Neshoba Central head coach Wes Johnson.
"I've got to revise the bracket when I get home tonight," MCC coach and tournament director Robert Eakins said Monday after officiating junior high football action.
Of the 14 teams, six are ranked in the state's top 11. Three are defending state champions New Hope in Class 4A, West Lauderdale in Class 3A and Union in Class 1A. Slated to play are No. 1 West Lauderdale, No. 4 New Hope, No. 5 Picayune, No. 8 Meridian, No. 9 Brandon, No. 11 Moss Point, Union, Newton County, Northeast Lauderdale, Southeast Lauderdale, Petal, Poplarville, Enterprise and East Webster.

Scouting trip
Meridian High School head coach Ed Stanley along with members of his staff spent Saturday scouting the Wildcats' next opponent and the field they will play on.
Meridian High opens District 3-5A play against Hattiesburg on Friday at the University of Southern Mississippi's M.M. Roberts Stadium.
The Wildcat coaching staff stopped by the stadium, better known as 'The Rock,' on their way to watching Hattiesburg defeat Moss Point 15-13.
The trip had two purposes, to see Hattiesburg live and check out the synthetic playing surface in Roberts Stadium.
"It is a longer version of the old turf," Stanley said. "You can play in tennis shoes or go with regular cleats. We will probably have our players wear their regular cleats."

No make up for Clarkdale, Mercy Cross game
Clarkdale High School's football game with Mercy Cross set for last Friday night will not be rescheduled.
Hurricane Ivan forced the postponement of the Friday night game to be played on the Coast, and school officials decided later not to make it up.
"We offered to let them come up here and play on our field," said Clarkdale athletic director Rick Roberson said. "They could have had the gate, but they decided not to play."
Also, Newton County's postponed game at Quitman High School has been canceled.
