Cameron Sherrill and Brandon Bennett didn't keep Lamar cross country fans waiting very long on Monday.
The two Raiders runners arrived at the finish line one-two in the Lamar Invitational, propelling the hosts to a second-place finish behind overall winner Jackson Academy.
In the girls' race, the Lady Raiders cross country team came in sixth, led by Elaine Clark in 22nd place and Anna Covington in 26th. The Simpson Academy girls' team won the meet.
Julie Little of Simpson Academy, Valerie Moss of Pillow Academy and Casey Hilton from Simpson came in first, second and third overall in the girls race.
Sherrill and Bennett were followed in Monday's meet by Drew Robertson in 14th place, Wade Covington in 17th place, Brandon McElroy in 20th place, Denver Harrison in 21st place and Russ Patterson in 55th.
Lady Raiders runners who followed Clark and Covington were Callie Rush in 28th place, Ashley Carmichael in 43rd place, Sarah Sumner in 45th place, Jamie Henderson in 52nd place and Catherine Covington in 55th place.
Abdella said he was pleased with his teams' performances, but stressed to his team and others alike that the only meet that matters is the MPSA state cross country meet on Oct. 25 at Mississippi College.
