Holly Herrington never doubted that her West Lauderdale Lady Knights would be able to bounce back from an embarrassing defeat at the hands of arch-rival Clarkdale last Saturday night.
She believed, even when No. 1-ranked WL trailed Southeast Lauderdale 6-1 early in their game on Monday night.
The Lady Knights did just that, clinching the deal with a seven-run inning in the top of the sixth inning to win 14-8.
Not only did the win push the Lady Knights to an impressive 16-1 on the season, it all but clinched the Division 5-3A title.
West has not lost a division game, while Southeast Lauderdale now has two losses both to West Lauderdale and Newton County has three two to SEL and one to West.
There were several stars in the game for the Lady Knights. One of them was junior second baseman Morgan Gullette, who was moved up three spots in the batting order for this game.
When Gullette came to the plate in the top of the fifth, West Lauderdale trailed 8-5 with runners on first and second with one out.
She promptly blasted the ball over the left-fielder's head for a two-run triple.
Gullette led WL with a triple and two singles, while Kayla Eubanks had a double and two singles and Kristi Lantz had two singles. Lindsey Graham, Eli Bowen and Megan McMullen had two hits each for Southeast, now 14-7.
