Two prep football games will be played in the area today, with one being a rare afternoon contest.
The aftermath of Hurricane Ivan has caused the cancellation or postponement of several high school sports activities.
The Southeast Lauderdale High School Tigers will be playing host to powerful Forest High School in a 2 p.m. football game today.
The only other prep football game in the area today will have Enterprise playing host to Newton High School at 7:30 p.m. The game is homecoming for Enterprise.
The game between Kemper County and visiting Thomastown, which had been moved from Friday to Saturday, has been canceled.
There will also be one Monday night football game, when Northeast Lauderdale (1-2) hits the road to face Division 5-4A rival and No. 15-ranked Northeast Jones (3-0) at 7 p.m.
Friday night's game between Newton County and homestanding Quitman was called off and will not be made up. All high school football games in Alabama were postponed. All other games in the area were played as scheduled.
As of Friday morning, West Lauderdale is scheduled to host a pair of softball games on Saturday.
At noon the Lady Knights, ranked No. 1 in the state, will host Neshoba Central in a varsity game. A B-team game is set for 11 a.m.
West Lauderdale will then host No. 3-ranked Clarkdale at 7 p.m. The junior varsity teams are set to play at 6.
Meridian High School's slow-pitch softball game against Wayne County scheduled for today is postponed. A make-up date has not been set.
East Central Community College will be hosting Southwest Mississippi at 2 p.m. in junior college football, while East Mississippi travels to Fulton for a 1:30 p.m. contest with Itawamba. Jones visits Hinds at 3 p.m.
Meridian Community College has rescheduled all but one of its soccer matches that where postpones this week.
The Eagles will host East Central Community College in a Central Division men's match at 5 p.m. on Friday. The game was originally to be played today.
MCC will host Gulf Coast Community College in men's and women's matches on Sept. 30, with the women' kicking off the evening at 5 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for last Tuesday.
No make-up date has been set for the Lady Eagles' contest against Shelton State, which was set to be played today.
