Lady Tigers drop close game
Southeast Lauderdale came back from two deficits against Quitman, but the Lady Tigers couldn't pull out a slow-pitch softball win against the Lady Panthers on Saturday.
Quitman (1-3) notched the winning run in a 7-6 victory over Southeast with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Tigers fell to 3-2 for the season with the loss.
After entering the seventh tied at six, Southeast looked to be on the verge of forcing extra innings.
The Lady Tigers pulled off a double play with the bases loaded when Southeast pitcher Heather Harber (3-2) snagged a line drive hit back to the mound and doubled off a Lady Panther runner at first base, leaving Quitman with runners and second and third base with two outs.
The Lady Panthers pulled out the one-run win with a single to bring home the final run from third by Ashley Herring.
Gabby Morgan went 4-for-4 for the Lady Panthers, and Rebecca Riley and Herring each went 3-for-4. Quitman continues its season at home against West Jones on Tuesday.
Heather Ward went 3-for-4 to lead the Lady Tigers' offense, and Harber went 2-for-4. Southeast continues its season against Newton County at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home.
