KA faces tough road in 2004

DEKALB When Kemper Academy head football coach Pete McClesky looks over his team's schedule for the 2004 season, he is sure of one thing it won't be easy.
Heidelberg won the overall state title last year, and Wayne won it all in 2002. Sylva-Bay also made a run for the state crown last year.
The Rams have the typical even split of home and away games on their 10-contest schedule.
Kemper, which finished last year 4-6, open the season on Aug. 20 on the road against Calhoun.
After the road opener, the Rams will be at home for back-to-back games. Kemper hosts Hebron on Aug. 27 and Newton on Sept. 3.
The Rams return to the road for their next two games, traveling to Wayne on Sept. 10 and Rebul on Sept. 24.
Kemper hosts Sylva-Bay on Sept. 24, and the Rams will take on Central on Oct. 1 in the team's homecoming game.
The homecoming contest against Central will be circled on most Ram fans' calenders for an additional reason than the usual pageantry around the game.
The Rams return to the road for two straight games after homecoming, playing Central Holmes on Oct. 8 and Heidelberg on Oct. 15. Kemper concludes its season at home against East Holmes on Oct. 22.
McClesky said while the teams in the district are all fairly close together, the trip to Central Holmes will be challenging for his team.
