Marisa Henry of Carthage has been selected to receive the Doris and Cecil Seale Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College. Daisy Seale Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Moore of Fairhope, Ala., funded this $250 award through the MCC Foundation.
Henry is a 2001 graduate of Leake Academy, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Christian Organization and the Beta Club. She was a delegate to Girls State, played varsity basketball and was named Miss Leake Academy. She is a freshman in the Dental Hygiene Program. She is a President's List scholar and a member of the Health Occupation Students of America.
She works part-time and is the assistant pianist at her church.
Lynette Almond of Lauderdale has been selected to receive the Community Bank Veterans Scholarship for the spring semester at Meridian Community College.
Community Bank of Meridian funds this $500 award through the MCC Foundation. Charles W. "Chuck" Nicholson, foundation president, announced the establishment of this scholarship to honor people who have served in the armed forces.
Almond is a 1990 honor graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School, where she participated in the ROTC program. A licensed practical nurse, she works part-time at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center on the orthopedic surgery floor.
Almond served four years in the U.S. Navy. She is studying to become a registered nurse. Her plans are to continue her training through the master's level.
Tamara S. Gowdy has been selected to receive the Tommy Webb Business Scholarship at Meridian Community College. This $600 award is funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by a bequest from the estate of Laura S. Webb. Norma Webb has also contributed to the endowment.
Gowdy is a 2002 honors graduate of Clarkdale Attendance Center. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society and the Student Council. Gowdy played varsity basketball and was elected Miss Clarkdale High School.
A sophomore in the University Transfer Program, she plans to pursue a master's degree in business administration.
The recipient of the Bill Davis Scholarship is Barry Lavon Howard. This $500 award is funded through the MCC Foundation. Bill Davis was the golf professional at Northwood Country Club for many years. His influence on junior golf in Mississippi was tremendous and many of his proteges enjoyed stellar careers in amateur golf.
A 2003 honor graduate of Quitman High School, Howard was a member of the Student Council, the chorus and the annual staff. He was named to Who's Who Among Students in America's High Schools.
At MCC, Howard is in the University Transfer Program. He is active with his church youth group and youth choir and is a volunteer at the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
