The Newton County Academy Generals open MPSA Class A playoff action today when they host University Christian in the first game of a best-of-three-series.
Today's contest is set to begin at 3 p.m. The Generals will travel to Flowood to face University Christian.
In other MPSA Class A action today, Heidelberg Academy travels to Flora to face Tri-County Academy at 5 p.m. HA hosts TCA on Friday.

Seminary 7
The Clarkdale baseball team closed out the regular season with an 8-7 home win over Seminary on Monday.
Kyle Boswell (7-3) picked up the win on the mound, allowing three runs off two hits with three strikeouts in two innings of relief. Clarkdale improved its record to 15-10.
Kurt Singley recorded a single and double with an RBI for the Bulldogs, and Kevin McKissack notched a pair of hits and an RBI. Michael Davis had two singles for Clarkdale.
The Bulldogs travel to Loyd Star for the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs on Friday.

Taylorsville 1
Bud Loper came within one batter of throwing a no-hit game in Newton County's regular-season finale win over Taylorsville on Monday.
Loper (5-6) ended up surrendering just one hit in an eight-strikeout performance to help even Newton County's record to 15-15.
The Cougars begin play in the Class 3A playoffs on Friday taking on Greene County at 7 p.m.
Will Pearson collected two doubles and two RBIs for Newton County, and Josh Sheehan hit a three-run triple and collected his fourth RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly.
Justin Farmer notched a double and an RBI for the Cougars, and Jarrod Cavenaugh drove in two runs and hit a single. Greg Pillsbury notched an RBI single, and Loper hit a single in the win.

Heidelberg Academy 10
Columbia 1
The homestanding Heidelberg Academy Rebels improved to 21-0 with a 10-1 victory over Columbia Academy here Saturday at Mitch Gavin Memorial Field.
Ian Sharp, 6-0, posted the win, fanning 12. He also doubled and singled.
Chad Carmichael doubled and singled, while Mason Key singled twice. Brent
Welch had a double, while Justin Gibbs and Matthew Andrews singled.
Heidelberg Academy meets Tri-County Academy in the Class A playoffs this week. Game one is today at 5 p.m. at Flora. Game two is Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Heidelberg, with game three, if necessary, to follow.

Newton 10
Homestanding Noxapater High School held off a furious Newton rally in the top of the seventh inning to take an 11-10 win on Monday.
The Tigers scored three runs each in the first, third and sixth innings and two in the fourth to build their lead, only to see Newton score five times in the top of the seventh.
Cole Creemen (5-4) was the winning pitcher for Noxapater, while also banging out a double and two singles.

Jones JC 4-4
Gulf Coast 7-3
The homestanding Jones Junior College Bobcats earned a split with the Gulf
Coast Bulldogs Saturday at Bobcat Field. Gulf Coast took the opener, 7-4, but Jones bounced back to win game two, 4-3.
In the JCJC win, Jones led 2-0 after five, but Gulf Coast scored three in the top of the sixth. However, Jones came back to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on in the seventh for the win.
Akeem Lofton and Michael James each singled twice for the Bobcats. Jared
Myrick added a triple, with Jason Ford, Jeremy Perkins, Elliott Burch, Wes Chancellor and Chancy Rogers all getting singles. Lofton doubled and singled to pace the Bobcats in first game. Jason Ford, Perkins, James, Burch and Tim Hilton all added singles.

with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Southwest.
