Excellence in Education

Several area students were recognized recently during the annual Honors Day Convocation at the University of West Alabama. Honors Day is held each spring on the Livingston campus.
Stephanie Davidson of Meridian was inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society. She is a senior history major and vice president of the History Club. She is the daughter of Gary and Toni Davidson and has one daughter, Madison Bradley.
Leigh Ann Morrow of Meridian was inducted into the Blue Key Honor Fraternity. She is a senior psychology major. Morrow is a UWA Ambassador and cheerleader. She is the daughter of Greg and Anita Morrow.
Shannon Rhea Quinnelly of Lauderdale was also inducted into the Blue Key Honor Fraternity. She is a senior nursing major and the daughter of Irma Williams. This summer, she will begin to pursue her nurse anesthetist degree.
Robert J. Schambura of Meridian was inducted into the Alpha Chi, Cardinal Key and Pinnacle honor societies. He is a technology major and a graduate of Meridian Community College. He is the son of Joseph and Suzanne Schambura of Boron, Calif.
Melanie Marie Key of DeKalb was inducted into the Alpha Chi and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. She was also included in Who's Who Among America's Colleges and Universities. She is active in the Accounting Club, Delta Mu Delta and the Wesley Foundation. She is the daughter of Tommy and Kathleen Key and the granddaughter of Myrtle Key.
David Edwards Smith of Porterville was inducted into the Alpha Chi Honor Society. A senior majoring in English, he is the son of Dr. Jim and Carolyn Smith and the grandson of Dora Alice Edwards.
Kelly Dabbs and Brian Stringer of Meridian made the Dean's List at William Carey College for the winter trimester. Dean's list scholars must have at least a 3.5 grade point average for nine or more hours of academic work.
Allison Brooke Williams has been selected to receive the Jacob Toney Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College. This $500 award is funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Rebekah Toney of Quitman. Toney chose to remember her son with this scholarship to benefit a student from Clarke County.
Williams is a 2003 graduate of Quitman High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Health Occupation Students of America and Mu Alpha Theta. At MCC, she is a freshman in the Radiologic Technology Program.
A dean's list scholar, she is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. She works part-time, volunteers for the school system and teaches Sunday school.
