Should they have
taken their spouses?

The county's New York City trip also raised another issue: Should public officials have taken their spouses or a guest to a popular destination for what should have been a business trip?
Taxpayers footed the bill for county officials' airfare, hotel room and $40 a day in expenses. The officials themselves, however, were responsible for paying their spouse's airfare and expenses.
While there may be nothing wrong with officials taking their spouses, the fact they went to New York City home of Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Broadway has caused some people to label the trip a vacation.
Think about it: Would their spouses have gone if the trip was to Memphis or Birmingham?
