The Meridian High Lady Wildcats couldn't fight off their defensive mistakes and the Brandon offense on Thursday night.
Meridian lost its second straight division game at the hands of the Brandon Lady Bulldogs 14-4 at Northeast Park.
The Lady Wildcats made 10 errors in the field and only managed seven hits at the plate.
Brandon drew first blood in the first inning with one run to take a 1-0 lead over the Lady Wildcats. Kala Griffith led the inning off with a single and she later scored on an error at third base to give Brandon a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to build a lead in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Griffith led the third inning off with a single and she once again score on another error on the MHS infield to give Brandon a 2-0 lead.
Brooke Barrett followed the run with a single and scored moments later on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0. The final run of the third inning for Brandon scored on an RBI single by Mary Beth Parker to extend the lead to 4-0 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.
Meridian finally cracked the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 4-3. Lindsay Lang led the inning off with a single and crossed the plate later in the inning on a wild pitch to make the score 4-1. Courtney Trotter also added a single in the inning and scored on yet another wild pitch by Brandon.
The Lady Wildcats drew to within one run, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Artesian Boyd that made the score 4-3. Meridian never came any closer as Brandon would add one run in the fourth inning on an MHS error and four more runs in the fifth inning to take a comfortable 9-4 lead. Carmen Musgrove had an RBI single in the four-run fifth and Alicia Berry also added a run-scoring single in the same inning.
Brandon added four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to take the 10-run win. Brittney Williams highlighted the sixth with a two-run triple and Griffith also added her third single of the game in the sixth.
The only other run for the Lady Wildcats scored on a single from Lang in the fourth.
Meridian (9-6, 0-2) will return to action today on the road at Newton County beginning at 6 p.m.
