Students from Meridian Community College and East Mississippi Community College recently participated in the 2004 Mississippi Community/Junior College Student Art Competition.
Several students from MCC and EMCC placed in the competition.
They are, Susan Rasmussen, best of show, "3D Insanity," MCC; Belle Nauer, first place, drawing, "Untitled," MCC; Stephanie Culpepper, third place, drawing, "Gloomy Fall," ECCC; Jessie Brashier, honorable mention, drawing, "Stone Faces," MCC; Bernadette Berzer, first place, painting and mixed media, "Something Horrible in the Rain," MCC; Antonio Nailor, first place, commercial art, "CD Cover," MCC; Chris Stewart, third place, commercial art, "Illustrated Self Portrait," MCC; Lindsey Knight Bejeweled, third place; 2-D design, ECCC; and Anna Hurtt, second place, photography, "Doorscape," MCC.
The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority's Delta Nu Chapter will honor 85 high school seniors at 2:30 p.m. Sunday as a part of the National Finer Womanhood Observance at Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus.
The program is called "A Salute to Outstanding Minority Youth."
Students from Meridian, Lauderdale County and surrounding counties were selected by school counselors based on academic achievement, extra curricular activities and community service.
Fourteen schools will represented in the program, including two from Alabama. The keynote speaker will be Linda Wilson-Jones, a Mississippi native and associate professor of educational leadership at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, N.C.
