A dreaded double standard

By By Stephanie Denham / editorial assistant
March 14, 2004
Are there no conservatives left in California or New Jersey or Washington?
I am confused and it seems that I am the only person who has thought of this as no one else has written or said it. How are mayors and judges in the above-mentioned places able to defy state and federal laws by performing same-sex marriages and remain in office?
Over in Alabama, Judge Roy Moore defied state and federal law for placing the Ten Commandments in a public building and was relentlessly hounded. These other people are defying laws and are being praised for their actions.
This seems unfair to the point that it is beyond comprehension.
Where are all the conservatives?
President Bush did come out with his statement against same-sex marriages and was blasted in the national media for maybe a day or two, but then we have heard nothing more.
We are seeing movie star after movie star and other politicians, mostly liberal Democrats, parade across our TV screens each night with their applause and praise for these "marriages."
But where are the conservatives?
Will they stay silent because it is not the politically correct thing to do?
Are they so shallow as to not stand up for themselves and their feelings because they fear losing their jobs?
I guess this is once again going to be how the liberals get their agenda rushed through the doors and windows of our society like a mighty wind of change. Was this not also the way abortion was legalized and prayer was taken out of schools?
Conservatives' thoughts and feelings were just brushed aside and stomped on by the powers that be.
Why are these officials not being removed for breaking the law? Why is what they are doing any better or any different than Judge Moore?
I am so tired of the double standard that the liberals can live under and that I am forced to watch and be told that this is the way it is going to be. I don't agree with the way it is going to be and will never agree with it.
I am not gay bashing here. I simply don't like or agree with the double standard that these judges and city officials are using in their actions. I just don't understand it and have yet to have anyone convince me that these judges are right and that what they're doing is any different than what Judge Moore did.
