Navy Chief Petty Officer Howard Triplett, son of Emma and Benjamin Triplett of Louisville, is currently in the middle of a scheduled deployment while assigned to the guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, homeported in Mayport, Fla.
Triplett is one of more than 6,500 sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, which deployed immediately following work-up exercises in order to carry out America's ongoing operations in the war on terrorism.
Cruisers like USS Gettysburg are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons available.
Triplett joined the Navy in June 1986.
Navy Airman Angela L. Johnson, a 2002 graduate of Louisville High School, and her fellow shipmates assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington homeported in Norfolk, Va., recently responded to a distress call from an Italian merchant vessel.
Upon receiving the distress call, Johnson's ship dispatched an HH-60H Seahawk helicopter to transport a wounded Italian sailor to the aircraft carrier, where he received proper medical attention for several deep lacerations around his face and an injury to his right leg.
Carriers like the USS George Washington are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provides rapid response in times of crisis.
Navy Airman Angela L. Johnson, of Louisville, recently made a port of call visit to Souda Bay, Greece, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington.
While in Greece, Johnson and her fellow shipmates enjoyed shopping at cultural centers and visiting historical sites.
