Wildcats claw out two wins

BRANDON Brittany Davidson hit a runner with one second to play to lift the Meridian High Lady Wildcats to a 52-50 victory over homestanding Brandon on Tuesday night.
In boys' action, the Wildcats continued to roll in division play with a 96-57 victory over the Bulldogs.
The Lady Wildcats overcame turnovers to pick up the win and improve to 15-7 and 2-2 in the division. Both MHS teams will be back in action at Murrah on Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-3 lead and led 11-5 after Tomisha Agee hit her third three-pointer of the quarter with 2:44 left to play in the first.
Meridian was able to cut into the lead with a basket by Whitney Hood and three free throws by Davidson and trailed 12-10 after the first quarter.
Brandon stretched out an even bigger lead in the second quarter by going on a 14-2 run midway through the second quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs led 31-21 at the half.
Meridian came back strong with good inside scoring from Courtney Wade in the third quarter. Wade scored eight points in the third quarter and Meridian cut the lead to one point with a minute left.
Brandon used a pair of buckets from Agee gave Brandon a 38-33 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Meridian steadily cut into the lead and moved to within one point on a basket by Davidson with 4:18 left to play. The Lady Wildcats were unable to tie the game until Brittany Kennedy hit a shot with 1:45 left to knot the game at 47.
Davidson was fouled on the Lady Wildcats' next possession and hit a pair of free throws. After another free throw by Meridian late in the game, Holly Dial came through with a clutch three-pointer to tie the game with 15 seconds to play.
Davidson took the ball after a timeout and drove through the Lady Bulldogs defense for a layup with one second left to give Meridian the 52-50 win.

Meridian blew past Brandon to stay undefeated in division play with a 96-57 win.
The fifth-ranked Wildcats move to 19-4 and remain undefeated in division play at 4-0 with the victory.
After falling behind 6-2 in the opening minutes, the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run led by five points by Jacolby Davis and capped off by a dunk by Cyrus McGowan.
Brandon was able to hang with the Wildcats and outscored Meridian 7-2 in the final two minutes of the first to trail 25-20.
Meridian went on a 14-3 run in the second quarter to take over the game. The Wildcats added a 10-3 run later in the second and led 54-33 at halftime.
MHS outscored Brandon 21-8 in the third quarter and then continued to roll in the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 21-16 in the fourth quarter to take the 86-57 victory.
