East Mississippi Business Development Corp. president Wade Jones and Meridian Community College director of Institutional Advancement Kathy Brookshire are introducing a new program called School Counts.
The program would provide students in Meridian and Lauderdale County with a School Counts card if they meet certain criteria. The card would give students first dibbs at local job interviews and possibly discounts at local stores.
The program, which is still in its infancy, is designed to teach students a proper work ethic so that they can be competitive and successful in their future career endeavors.
Jones said more than 80 local businesses have already indicated a willingness to participate in the program.
