Self-employed chicken farmer
UNION Services for Frank J. "Buddy" Hillman will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Reid Chapel Church of God on Highway 492, east of Union, with the Revs. Haskel Rhodes and Lonnie Hill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home of Union in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hillman, 64, of Union, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Laird Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wall Hillman, his son, Michael James Hillman and his wife, Cheryl, and a granddaughter, Amber Hillman, all of Union; two sisters, Nell Williams of Natchez; and Dot Gainey of Union; three brothers, Alvan Smith of Pasadena, Texas; and Olan Smith and Ed Smith, both of Union; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pauline Hillman, and his brother, William Clay Smith.
Pallbearers will be Larry Loper, Larry Goss, Gwen Goss, Benny Brewer, Bill Abel, Doyle Goss and Charles Phillips.
Retired
Services for Walter E. "Eddie" Pigott will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jerry Salley and Roy Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Pigott, 67, of Meridian, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Heartfelt Hospice. He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sumiko Pigott; brothers, William E. Pigott and James S. Pigott, all of Meridian and Gene Pigott of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Virginia Rushing of Meridian and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Virgie Pigott; brothers, Tommy Pigott, Otis Pigott, Ray Pigott, Harold Pigott and Charles Pigott.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
GILBERTOWN, Ala. Services for Nathan Ezett Clark Sr. will be held today at 3 p.m. at Gilbertown Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Rev. Roger Burke officiating. Burial will be in Gilbertown Cemetery with Phillips Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Clark, 83, of Gilbertown, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Willow Trace Nursing Home in Butler.
Survivors include his son, Nathan Clark Jr. of Gainesville, Ga.; two daughters, Joyce Morgan of Benton, La.; and Peggy Lavergne of Cumming, Ga.; brothers, Fred Clark of Gilbertown; Amon Clark of Bruce, Miss.; and Nary Clark of Citronelle; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Falls Clark.
Visitation will be today, 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Retired
Services for Ruth Frances Lackey will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Lackey, 81, of Meridian, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Beverly Health Care Center. She was a retired secretary at Dement Printing Company and after retirement worked as a cashier at Wal- Mart. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Arthur E. Lackey and his wife, Fredda, of Addison, Texas; granddaughters, MIchelle Lackey of Dallas and Amanda Biscomb and her husband, Ben, of Ruston, La.; a great-grandson, Kade Biscomb of Ruston, La.; a brother, Arthur L. Carpenter Sr. of Johnson City, N.Y.; a sister, Evelyn Brobeck of Jonesboro, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Mary Nell Carpenter of Meridian; a special niece, Lorie Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Charlotte Ruth Lackey; her parents, Arthur Lamar Carpenter Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Ethridge Carpenter; and brothers, Sonny Carpenter and Kenneth Carpenter.
Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Bill Carpenter, Will Carpenter, Matthew Carpenter, Peter Carpenter, Julian Allen, Billy Ray Ethridge, Vester Miles, and Robert Allen Brobeck.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services for Melvin McIntosh Sr. will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark United Methodist Church in DeKalb with the Rev. Wayne Bass officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Enterprise Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McIntosh, 91, of DeKalb, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Riley Hospital.
Survivors include his sons, Melvin McIntosh Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, Frederick McIntosh, Wayne McIntosh and Dwight McIntosh, all of DeKalb and Virgle McIntosh of East St. Louis, Ill.; daughters, Joyce M. Jackson and Ruby Smith, both of Jackson, Marjorie M. Alexander of Meridian and Dianne McClendon of Franklin, Tenn.; and Deborah Jones of Woodstock, Ga.; a brother, Leslie McIntosh of Albany, N.Y.; a sister, Ina Jean Roberts of East St. Louis; 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie McIntosh.
Visitation will be today from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the funeral home and from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the church in DeKalb.
Graveside services for Paul B. James will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Horeb Baptist Church. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. James, 55, of Meridian, who lived at Angel Care Hospice for the past year, died after a lengthy illness due to cancer. He was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, David A. James and his wife, Donna, a daughter, Paula Susan Bounds and her husband, Giles, two brothers, Tommy Junior James and William Ray James, three grandchildren and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Arrangements were incomplete at James F. Webb Funeral Home for Dovie R. Knighton, 68, of Meridian, who died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
