Enterprise holds off Stringer in tourney

By By Will Bardwell / staff writer
    Jan. 9, 2004
ENTERPRISE A last-second defensive stand staved off Stringer and brought Enterprise its second win of the year.
The Bulldogs got two free throws from Scott Moseley and one from Dennis Watson in the final minute, as Enterprise held on for a 52-50 win in the first day of the Enterprise Invitational.
Moseley was the game's high scorer with 15 points. Maurice Dixon had 11 points for the Bulldogs. Wesley Jenkins led the Red Devils with 12 points, and Mike Barrett added 10.
The Bulldogs entered the fourth quarter trailing 39-37, but reeled off a 6-0 run to begin the period and took a four-point lead.
Stringer closed the gap and tied the game at 47 with about a minute to play, but an Enterprise basket and two free throws from Dixon put the Bulldogs up 51-47 with 40 seconds remaining.
Jenkins drained a three-pointer for Stringer on the Red Devils' next possession, but Watson sank a free throw on the other end to put the Bulldogs up by two.
Stringer had the ball with 30 seconds left, and after a play never developed against Enterprise's zone defense, the Red Devils called timeout.
The ensuing inbounds pass sailed into the backcourt, and by the time it was recovered, there was no time for a shot.
    Enterprise is 2-11.

Late in the third period, Jessica Gray finished a 9-0 run for the Lady Bulldogs by splitting two defenders and hitting a layup. Gray's basket gave Enterprise a 35-14 lead its largest advantage of the game.
The Lady Devils put together a 9-2 run of their own in the fourth quarter to come within 12 points for the first of two occasions, but came no closer.
