Seminary defeats Oilers

HEIDELBERG Tim Holloway scored three times in leading Seminary over Heidelberg 28-20 Friday night before a standing room only crowd at W.C. Jones Field.
The win moves the undefeated Bulldogs into the South State 2A finals against Taylorsville next Friday night in Seminary. Taylorsville, now 10-3 overall, won over Enterprise Friday night to advance.
Holloway scored on runs of 5 and 11 yards and caught a 26 -yard pass for another score. The talented junior rushed for 138 yards on 17 carries in the game.
Seminary coach Lance Mancuse was just pleased to leave Heidelberg with a win.
Seminary had their problems against the "fired up Oilers." In the first half the Bulldogs were called for 10 penalties and in the second half lost four fumbles to keep the homestanding Oilers in the game.
Heidelberg missed out on two possible touchdowns in the second half , but Seminary stopped the Oilers at the 10 and 17 yard lines.
Seminary opened the scoring when forcing a Heidelberg fumble on the Oilers' second offensive play of the game. The Bulldogs recovered at the Oilers' five yard line and two plays later Holloway scored on a 5-yard run. Daniel Hendry kicked his first of four kick conversions.
The Bulldogs missed a 30-yard field goal with 3:45 to play in the opening quarter but scored early in the second period. Holloway snared a 26-yard pass from Mike Watts to climax a three-play 34-yard drive. The good field position was set up when the Oilers only punted the ball 11 yards.
Heidelberg finally recorded their first first down on the next series but more importantly moved 56 yards in five plays to score on a Neil Russell run of 25 yards.
The two-point conversion failed and Heidelberg trailed 14-6 with 8:29 to play in the half.
The Oilers recovered a Seminary fumble on the kickoff at the 28 yard line. A pass from Russell to Payne moved the ball to the 6 yard line. The drive stalled and Seminary took over on their own 10-yard line.
The Bulldogs then controlled the clock for the next six and one-half minutes moving from their own 10 yard line to the Oilers' 25. Seminary ran 19 plays in the non-scoring drive.
Heidelberg came out in the second half and gambled early. Facing a fourth and one from their 37 yard line, McGill decided to go for the first down, but instead Kenyoung Arrington dived into the middle of the Bulldogs' defense and came out the other side and raced 63 yards for a score. Russell ran the conversion
and the teams were tied 14-14.
Seminary then used a nine-play 73-yard drive to go ahead 21-14 as Holloway scored from the 11 yard line. Holloway had five runs in the scoring drive.
The Bulldogs forced an Oiler punt and took over on their own 45 yard line. Three plays later Watts hit Derwyn Cooley for 40 yards and a score. The Bullies
led 28-14 with 3:49 to play in the third period.
Heidelberg was stopped at the Seminary 8 yard line on the next series.
The Oilers cut into the Seminary lead with 2:54 to play in the game when Donny Bramlett recovered a Doug Ryans fumble in the end zone for the final Oiler score.
