Local pair triumphs at Tupelo tourney

TUPELO Clay Bounds and Easton Key, both of Meridian, came out on top of their age divisions at the Pros of Tomorrow golf tournament at the Tupelo Country Club last Tuesday.
Bounds won first place in the 14-15-year-old division with a 75-74 for a two-day total of 149, and Key took the top spot in the 11-and-under age group with a 42-40 for a two-day total of 82.
Bounds approached the 13th hole of the golf course with a three-over-par score, but the young golfer tamed the 520-yard, par-5 No. 13 hitting a shot from 100 yards out over the pin that rolled back towards the hole. He eagled the hole and from there took over the championship position in his age group.
Key also added plenty of drama to his first-place finish.
The golfer in the 11-and-under age group went to a play off hole against his competitor for first place, and he was able to pull off the victory on the second playoff hole.
In the 12-13-year-old age group, Chad Bounds tallied a two-day total of 163, shooting an 84-79, for a sixth place finish, and Elliot Tramontana finished 10th in shooting 86-88 for a two-day of 174.
Josh Ivy of Quitman finished in fourth place in the 14-15-year-old division with a score of 79-78 for a total of 156.
In the 16-18-year-old age group, J.T. Williamson hit a two-day total of 157, with a 79-78 performance, for a 14th place finish, and Reed Kennedy ended in 20th with an 83-78 for a 161 two-day score.
