Maniscalco ends a fine career at State

STARKVILLE Mississippi State senior shortstop Matthew Maniscalco finished in the top 10 of many career categories for the maroon and white. He ended first in at-bats with 993.
He's seventh in runs scored with 197, fourth in hits with 279, fifth in doubles with 54, fourth in triples with 11, sixth in stolen bases with 46, tied for fourth in games played with 246, and second (behind Richard Lee's 247) in games started with 246.
Maholm rates well too
While junior lefty Paul Maholm isn't expected to return to MSU next year, his name will be found on many top 10 career lists at MSU.
The Holly Springs native is tied for fifth in career wins with 27, third in strikeouts with 273, tied for 10th in starts with 44, and fourth in innings pitched with 312.
Pappy's on the list too
Junior reliever Jonathan Papelbon is on two Mississippi State career lists. The righty from Jacksonville, Fla., is 10th in relief appearances with 61 and seventh in saves with 13.
No. 800 in the book
Mississippi State's 10-5 win over Missouri Saturday night was the Bulldogs' 800th victory at Dudy Noble Field in the stadium's 37-year history.
Sunday's loss to North Carolina left the Bulldogs with an 800-270-2 all-time record at The Dude.
Power outage
For the entire 2003 season, Mississippi State hit just 49 home runs, none of which came in the Bulldogs' four regional games this weekend.
For the year, State fielded at a .974 clip.
Glad to be here
Tournament MVP Sean Farrell echoed his coach's sentiments.
North Carolina's regional championship was its first since 1989 which also came at Starkville.
Starkville All-Regional Team
North Carolina outfielder Sean Farrell was voted MVP of the Starkville Regional after hitting two homers in the Tar Heels' 8-6 win over Mississippi State Sunday.
Also named to the team were first baseman Chris Iannetta of UNC, second baseman Greg Mangum of UNC, shortstop Matthew Maniscalco of MSU, third baseman Steve Gendron of MSU, catcher Craig Tatum of MSU, pitchers Jamie Gant of MSU and Matt Danford of UNC, outfielders Jayce Tingler of Missouri and Brad Corley of MSU, and designated hitter Robby Goodson of MSU.
Count em up
For the six games of the NCAA Regional at Starkville, some 37,341 fans headed to Dudy Noble Field. This year's event was the seventh most-attended regional at MSU, although four of the six highest were six-team regionals that took 11 games to complete.
