Student exhibit opens at Bonnie Busbee gallery

Bonnie Busbee Art Frame and Gallery will host a show of works created this year by the adult students of Bonnie Busbee.
An opening reception Thursday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. will feature food, drink and live music.
Those students include Audrey Barton, Ginny Buchanan, Rhonda Denton, Ellen Evans, Stacey Florey, Debbie Ford, Bebe Gianakos, Terry Heder, Bonnie James, Sharon Mabry, Gayle McPhearson, Pat Sanders, Sharon Sheridan, Elaine Shields, Cindy Smith, Charlene Speed, Susan Stuart, Becky Thompson, Susan Thompson, Dr. Paul Varela and Sissy Weems.
The works in the exhibit include still lifes, landscapes, and portraits, and all types of subject matter. Some are whimsical works, done simply for fun, while others are very personal pieces, paintings of loved ones or of subjects with deep meaning.
Artist Sharon Sheridan's "Generations of Memories" features her grandfather's old barn.
Student Rhonda Denton said, "Being a teacher of gifted art students myself, taking the classes has helped me to become a better art teacher."
The reception will feature the music of classical and acoustic guitarist Audie Shields, who specializes in romantic, Baroque, Spanish and religious music.
Shields has performed an advanced classical and religious repertoire at universities, churches, malls, schools and festivals, including an hour-long presentation at Samford University when he was just 14 years old.
In 2002, Shields was invited to perform in a master class with world-renowned classical guitarist William Kanengiser, a guitar professor at the University of Southern California.
Shields was also invited to perform in master classes with Dr. Andrew Zohn of Columbus State University and Dr. Elliot Frank of the University of North Carolina. Shields is currently working on his first album project, "Classical Music and Hymns for the Guitar," and is composing a religious work for string quartet.
