The Clarke County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its first MayFest celebration in downtown Quitman on May 31. Activities will be centered on Main Street and around the historic depot.
Activities include arts and crafts, a parade, children's games, live entertainment, political salutes, and a variety of food prepared by local churches, Historic Clarke County and the Chamber of Commerce.
Plate lunches prepared by Historic Clarke County will be sold from the depot kitchen. They will feature barbecue pork on bun, coleslaw, baked beans, dessert, iced tea or lemonade and will sell for $5 per plate.
Other groups will offer hamburgers, shrimp, hot dogs, homemade corndogs, chili pies, homemade ice cream, chicken on a stick, fried dill pickles and Polish sausage.
Stonewall Baptist Church youth will offer homemade cakes, pies, and cookies for your Sunday desserts.
Booths will open at 9 a.m. with a parade beginning at 10 a.m. Live entertainment will be at the depot and will be interspersed with political salutes. Angela White will be featured entertainment. White has signed a recording contract and will do a European tour this summer.
Applications are still being accepted for booth spaces for arts and crafts. For more information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 776-5701.
