The Mississippi Senate has honored Dr. Thomas L. Davis, a longtime educator and president of East Mississippi Community College, for his work in helping restore the school's financial condition.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 557, passed the Senate in late March, notes that Davis returned to EMCC in 1990 when the school was facing closure and turned the college around.
Davis improved the financial condition of the college, changed its public image and boosted the morale of the faculty and staff resulting in a stronger, more unified college.
Sen. Sampson Jackson, D-DeKalb, authored the resolution honoring Davis.
In addition to his duties at EMCC, Davis has also served on many boards and committees, including president of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
He is a member of the board of directors of the Southern Association of Community and Technical Colleges and has also recently been honored by the Mississippi National Guard for his support of the nation's armed forces.
