Big Lots Inc. recently awarded a $1,000 educational grant to the Boys and Girls Club of Lauderdale County. The gift is a part of the company's "Values for Life" program.
The company awards 200 grants each year.
The grant is designed to support the club's needs, including salary support for tutors, program development and implementation, educational supplies, furniture, educational field trips, incentives and books.
Flowers said most of the money will be used for program supplies, updated software and educational supplies.
To be considered for funding, the Lauderdale County Boys and Girls Club submitted a plan on how the grant money would improve its current educational programming.
There are more than 3,000 Boys and Girls Clubs of America nationwide that serve more than 3 million young people, primarily the low-income or disadvantaged. The club provides programs for children 6 to 18 years old.
