School board struggles to find a solution

The Meridian School Board met Monday with Jackson attorney Joseph Adams to find a solution to the way non-classified school district employees are paid.
Those considered non-classified employees include teacher assistants, cafeteria workers, maintenance personnel and bus drivers. Many want their pay divided into 12 monthly checks.
Under state and federal law, the school district cannot divide 10 months of pay into 12 months. The board worked Monday to find a solution that will satisfy employees while also complying with state and federal law.
No action was taken. The board will vote on the issue at its monthly meeting next week.
