Eagles celebrate inaugural divisional title

The Meridian Community College baseball team sewed up the first Central Division regular season title last Friday.
The Eagles (27-12, 12-2 Central) swept the East Mississippi Community College Lions at Scaggs Field 8-5, 6-2 to capture the title of the first year division.
MCC catcher Ricky Newman led the way at the plate for the Eagles, who needed to win just one game against the Lions to clinch the divisional crown.
The freshman receiver collected a combined five RBIs on three hits, with a single, a double and a home run.
Meridian Community College sophomore linkster golfer Boles signed a national letter of intent to play golf for Mississippi State University last Tuesday at College Park.
The sophomore posted scores good enough for medalist honors three times his freshman year and four times so far this season. Boles has also made the All-Tournament team in 13 separate team tournaments over the past two Eagles' golf seasons.
In 2002, Boles finished 18th at Nationals and was an Honorary All-American.
The Lady Eagles softball team split a double-header against East Mississippi Community College at Northeast Park last Wednesday.
MCC (21-16, 14-2 Central Division) won the opening game of its divisional double dip 8-2, but errors derailed the squad in the second game.
The Lady Eagles committed three errors in the fifth inning leading to six Lady Lions runs.
EAST MISSISSIPPI
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The East Mississippi Community College softball team achieved a first on the diamond last week.
The Lady Lions (12-14, 6-10 Central Division) won their first game against Meridian Community College at Northeast Park last Wednesday.
EMCC trailed MCC 6-2 entering the fifth inning of game two of the two squads' divisional double-header.
The Lady Lions notched six runs in the fifth inning on two hits and three MCC errors.
EMCC pitcher Kati Fleming recorded the game-two victory, and she pitched in every inning of the double dip.
The sophomore hurler allowed a combined 14 runs, 10 earned, on 22 hits in 14 straight innings.
The EMCC baseball team dropped three straight games last seek.
The Lions (14-24, 4-8 Central Division) fell to Shelton State 13-3 on the road, and the squad was swept by MCC in a divisional double-header last Friday.
EMCC will attempt to snap its losing streak against Mississippi Delta Community College at 3 p.m. today at home.
