Meridian Police Department spokesman Dean Harper said today officers are investigating a sudden rash of auto burglaries that happened over a four-day period ending Monday.
Harper said that 18 cars were broken into, including six in the 2400 block of South Frontage Road and four in the 2200 block of North Frontage Road.
Most of the burglaries happened Friday and Saturday nights before 10 p.m. in the parking lots of restaurants and a motel. Harper declined to identify the businesses.
Part of the problem, he said, is that motorists leave their windows down as the weather gets hot. In addition, people leave their valuables in the open and in plain view.
