UNION A Union man was being held without bond in the Union jail Thursday night in connection with the shooting death of a woman.
Union Police Chief Bill Howell said that Fredrick Bingham Jr., 24, address unavailable, is charged with aggravated assault in the shooting of Laura Rush, 23, address also unavailable.
Rush died Thursday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Howell said his department received an Emergency-911 call just before midnight Wednesday. Officers then headed to a house on Mason Street.
The police chief said that Bingham and Rush were found in the house and that a .38-caliber pistol also was recovered from the scene.
Howell said that Rush suffered a gunshot wound to a shoulder and the head.
Newton County Coroner Dale Stampley said UMC notified her that Rush died at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday from the gunshot wound.
Stampley said an autopsy will be performed on Rush.
Howell said police are continuing to question Bingham about the shooting.
