Just before Mike McCarra and other Lauderdale County deputies on the night shift Philip Frazier, Andy Hatcher and Karey Williams went to work Thursday, they received a gift.
The four deputies stopped by the Aldersgate Retirement Community on Poplar Springs Drive, where independent living residents prepared desserts to show their appreciation for the county law officers.
Deborah Swann said the residents also have cooked for area firefighters and for U.S. Marines stationed at Naval Air Station Meridian.
Later that night, McCarra said he wasn't planning to take a meal break because of the desserts he sampled. He said deputies typically take a meal break during their shift if they can find the time.
