Lauderdale County emergency responders and school district administrators rushed to Northeast High School today where a student reportedly shot himself.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said a 15-year-old male student was injured at the school by a gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital.
Lauderdale County School Superintendent David Little said the teen-ager's injury was self-inflicted. Little said the school was on "lock-down" this morning, meaning no one can leave or enter the school grounds.
Little said the boy shot himself just before 8 a.m.; he added that counselors and ministers are expected to meet with students at the school today.
