Here are the results from the Northwest Junior High 2003 Science Fair.
Ninth grade:
Behavioral and social sciences first place, Justin Kirksey; honorable mention, Stephany Taylor; honorable mention, Kiki Latimer.
Botany first place, Sasha Luster; second place, Ashley Essix; and third place, Fran Surles.
Chemistry first place, Tyesha Bush; second place, Emily Entrikin; third place, Murrietta Jones; fourth place, Sarah Beth Boutwell; and fifth place, Hailey Merrill.
Earth and Space Science first place, Jodi Scheidel, and honorable mention, Justin Baylor.
Engineering first place, Libby Davis, and second place, John Lisenbe.
Gerontology first place, Nick Norman.
Medicine and Health honorable mention, Cassidee Grice.
Physics first place, Danny Derrington; second place, Will Tucker; third place, Daniel Johnson; fourth place, Vic Williams; fifth place, Tyler McMullen; and honorable mention, Sam Wilson.
Team projects first place, Cary Cox and Trey Grissett; second place, Samantha Geralds and Nikki Huffman; third place, Will Sims, Stephany Dawkins, and Lucy Vitela; fourth place, Nicole Johnson and Jarmikya Moore; and fifth place, Ashley Chisolm and Dimple Patel.
Eighth Grade:
Behavioral and Social Sciences first place, Julia Scarbrough; second place, Matthew Crane; and third place, Denise Lewis.
Botany first place, Meeta Desai; second place, Allison Blane; and third place, Jakkita Bolden.
Chemistry first place, Hallie Freyaldenhoven; second place, Sarah Hammes; third place, Matthew Banta; fourth place, Mindy Mendiola; fifth place, Stacy Chambers; and honorable mention, William Jones.
Physics first place, John Carroll; second place, Lon Burt; third place, Kayla Braddock; fourth place, Graham Ford; fifth place, Adam Carson; and honorable mention, Jonathan Davis.
The University of Montevallo recently honored students, including Joseph Mure of Meridian, who were named to the president's list for the fall 2002 semester.
Full time students who earned at least a 3.8 grade-point average in a semester are placed on the president's list for that term.
Eight Lauderdale County residents were among 720 students named to the 2002 fall semester honor roll at Alcorn State University.
Lauderdale County students on the honor roll: Maria Alford, Constance Stringfellow, LaShata Cole, Angela Hayden, Antonio Altman, Robert Walker, Candice Wynne and Adhley Jenkins.
Kate Griffin Junior High School students recently set a record 32 of them will have poems published in the national publication Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans.
The students publishing poems are Kathy McQuarters, Jessica Trussell, Justin Hopson, Alexis Washington, Timothy Johnson, Alesha Horne, ShaDonna Lewis, David Mosley, Cortez Wilson, Woody Byrge, Chris Parnell and Amber Walker.
Also publishing poems are Viv'a Houston, Xavier Easley, Chris Holiday, Ebonee Ball, Tashee Williams, Gabrielle Lewis, DeAnthony Dean, Quari Emerson, Ryan Rhodes, LaSondra Gaddis, Brittany Boykins, DeShunnica McClelland, Amanda Gardner, Ashley Rogers, Cordera Eason, Timothy Thompson, Lashawn Boyd, Ira Hampton, Somer Brady and Laquendrick Myles.
