Songfest to benefit Newton tornado victims

Jimbeau Hinson, a musician and native of Newton County, will return to Mississippi on Saturday to perform in a concert to benefit his hometown.
The Jimbeau Hinson Songfest is scheduled for the Temple Theatre in Meridian. All proceeds from the concert will go to victims of the December tornado that struck the city.
Hinson said he was approached by his friend, Linda Wade of Newton, who asked him about doing a concert.
Linda Way, organizer of the benefit, said she is thrilled with the lineup of performers.
Hinson has written hits for many artists. His songs include "Settin' Fancy Free" by the Oak Ridge Boys, "Gotta Get Your Heart Right" by Lee Greenwood, "Red Roses" by Reba McIntyre and "Party Crowd" by David Lee Murphy.
Hinson has recruited some of his friends and fellow musicians to perform. They include the following:
Rusty Golden. Golden, the son of Oak Ridge Boy's William Lee Golden, will be the opening act. He is a former member of "The Goldens" and "The Boys Band."
Rusty has shared the stage with such greats as Elton John, Guns and Roses, Don Henley and Garth Brooks. His credits include "The Pilgrim" by Marty Stuart and "Don't Stop Me Baby I'm on Fire" by The Boys Band.
Marc-Alan Barnette. Barnette, who says he is a distant relative of music legend Jimmie Rodgers, has opened for Patty Lovelace, Charlie Daniels, Toby Keith, Ricochet, Garth Brooks and Tanya Tucker. He is originally from Birmingham, Ala..
New Frontier, with Ken and Barry Somerville from New York. The group has toured with such acts as Willie Nelson, Reba McIntyre and Randy Travis, Carl Perkins and Diamond Rio. Members perform a blend of country, Americana and rock. Their new compact disc is titled "Slice of Life."
Jeffery Steele. Steele, of California, whose credits include "When the Lights Go Down" by Faith Hill, will make an appearance. He has songs performed by such artists as Randy Travis, Pam Tillis, Alabama, Aaron Tippin and Trisha Yearwood.
Ray Herndon. Herndon, of Scottsdale, Ariz., is a current member of McBride and The Ride. McBride and The Ride's new album is "Amarillo Sky."
Kim Tribble. Tribble, of Alabama, is one of Nashville's premier songwriters and one of Hinson's best friends. Tribble's credits include "I Can Still Feel You" by Collin Raye and "It's My Time" by Martina McBride.
