Far Away Places not so far away

Downtown Meridian has a new Thai restaurant, one that may not be so new to locals.
Seangpin "Tim" Young has reopened her popular restaurant, Far Away Places, in the old Marmadukes location at 1900 Front St. across from Union Station.
Young said she is happy to be back in business. She closed her original Far Away Places in 2001; that restaurant on Highway 19 North, near Meridian Community College, had been open for 16 years.
Another addition to Far Away Places is a partner Meridian businessman Cecil Crowe is backing Young in her new adventure. Crowe declined to comment on Tuesday.
Young said she closed her former location because she needed a change of scenery and a break. She also said she was glad to see familiar faces when she reopened downtown.
Young said she is trying out a short-order menu for lunch, which includes homemade egg rolls, tom-yum soup, shrimp po'boys and spaghetti with meat sauce. Lunches range from about $3.50 to $5.50.
Young said she hopes to have live music on the weekends. And, she said, she will do her best to accommodate her customers' many tastes by making special dishes.
