Heidelberg Rebels win Class A Central Region

BRANDON The Heidelberg Academy Rebels defeated Winston Academy for the second week in a row to capture a tournament championship.
The Rebels beat the Patriots 48-36 Saturday night for the MPSA Class A Central Tournament at University Christian School. Heidelberg beat Winston for the Academy 3-A district title the previous week.
In the latest matchup, Heidelberg got 13 points from Dan Edwards, 12 from Blake Bass, and six each from Lloyd Windham and Kyle Johnston in improving to 26-6.
The Rebels led 11-9 after one quarter, 22-16 at halftime, and 35-23 to start the fourth quarter.
Winston, 20-8, got nine points from Justin Eaves and six each from Brandon Jennings, Jon Duncan, and Joe Buck Peterson.

Wayne 43
CM&I bounced back from a 60-57 semifinal loss to Winston to take Saturday's consolation game with ease.
The Crusaders led 27-8 at the end of the first quarter and took a 39-23 lead into halftime. CM&I led 54-36 at the end of the third quarter.
Wayne, 13-12, got 16 points from Garet James and 11 from Patton Stanley.
CM&I, 23-8, got 20 points from Landon Veal, 13 from Jason Terry, and 11 from Adrian Carpenter.
All four teams advance to this week's Academy Class A State Tournament at Greenville Christian School.
