More than 800 students from 37 high school and vocational-technical centers will meet Thursday at East Central Community College when the state chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America holds its Central District leadership conference.
Sponsored by the college's Phi Beta Lambda chapter, the conference will feature an annual contest that measures student abilities in various areas of technology and business-related skills, said Brenda Johnson, an ECCC computer technology instructor.
Johnson, an adviser for Phi Beta Lambda, serves as conference chairman. Johnson said the ECCC is again pleased to host the event at the Decatur campus for the second straight year.
Registration for the day's activities is scheduled from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. at the Tucker Technology Center, room 318.
That will be followed by various areas of competition that include accounting, business communication, business procedures, computer concepts, entrepreneurship, marketing, networking concepts, desktop publishing, speaking, job interview, business, economics
and parliamentary procedure.
The guests will be entertained by the Collegians, ECCC's vocal-instrumental pop group, at a 1 p.m. concert in Huff Auditorium. An awards ceremony is scheduled at 2:30 p.m., and will recognize the top six winners in each area of competition.
Those winners also will qualify for the state contest in April.
For more details contact Brenda Johnson at the community college's Bradford J. Tucker Applied Technology Center at 635-2111 or, toll free, (877) 462-3222, ext. 255.
