West sweeps past Southeast

West Lauderdale played its final home games of the season on Friday night and came away with a sweep over Southeast Lauderdale on Senior Night.
The Lady Knights took out the Lady Tigers 60-41 and the Knights handled Southeast 61-39.
In the girl's game, West Lauderdale was able to stretch out to a double digit lead in the third quarter and went on to take the victory and improve to 25-3 on the season.
Southeast jumped out to an early lead on the Lady Knights. Sam Smith led the Lady Tigers on a 7-0 run to take an 11-4 lead with 4:25 left in the first.
Kristina Gardner scored West's first nine points and helped cut into the lead. Then J.J. Huggins, Shannon Lloyd and Angela Temple each hit a shot to give West the 15-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The two teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter and the Lady Knights led by one point in the final minute of the quarter. Patty Monroe closed out the half with a big three pointer to make the score 29-25 at half.
The Lady Knights came out in the second half and put together a run. Gardner and Huggins led West on a 14-5 run to start the half and give the Lady Knights a 41-30 lead.
West Lauderdale held a 44-34 lead after the third quarter and moved to a 12 point lead with three minutes left in the game. The Lady Knights made free throws in the final minutes held Southeast to just seven points in the fourth quarter to take the 60-41 victory.
Gardner led West in the win with 17 points while Huggins scored 13. Monroe added in 12 points for the Lady Knights.
Stacy Tate led Southeast with 12 points and Smith finished with 11 points. With the loss, the Lady Tigers drop to 20-9. As the third seed in the district, they will play Philadelphia in the first round of the district tournament next week.

The Knights jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they blew past the Tigers 61-39 on Friday night.
Calvin Moore led West with 15 points followed by Charles Andrews with 14 and Boo Ramsey with 10.
West Lauderdale used three-pointers in the first quarter to build a lead. Andrews hit three three-pointers in the quarter as the Knights moved out to an 18-8 lead after the first.
West Lauderdale was able to stretch the lead out to 30-15 at halftime. The Knights then went on a big run in the third quarter to stretch the lead. West went on a 15-2 run to make the score 47-20 with 3:55 left to play in the third.
The Knights then cruised in the fourth quarter to take the 61-39 victory.
Southeast was led by 10 points from Nehemiah Nwankpah. Richard Harris and Windham Campbell each scored eights points in the loss.
