Woman charged in fatal stabbing

A 32-year-old Meridian woman remained in jail today under a $20,000 bond after being charged with manslaughter in the stabbing death of a man.
Daphane Louise Moore, 604 45th Ave., Apt. C-6, was charged in the death of Lynn Baskin, 36, also of Meridian. Baskin's death was the first apparent homicide reported by the city in 2003.
Meridian Police Department spokesman Deano Harper said officers received an Emergency 911 call at about 9 p.m. Monday and found Baskin on the ground just off the 4500 block of Fifth Street.
Harper said Baskin had suffered a stab wound to the upper torso area and was rushed to a Meridian hospital, where emergency personnel could not revive him.
Harper said an MPD investigation led to Moore, whom officers found at about 9 a.m. Tuesday on a street in the area of the slaying.
Harper said an alleged weapon was recovered, but he wouldn't say what the weapon was or where police found it.
Moore was charged at about 1 p.m. Tuesday. She was also being held on a contempt of court charge; details of that charge were unavailable.
Harper declined to discuss any other details, including a possible motive. Harper said that Moore and Baskin had an unspecified domestic relationship.
Harper said the case is expected go to the Lauderdale County grand jury next month.
