The Meridian City Council was expected today to hire a planning and development firm to help boost its chances of landing additional funding for the Interstate 20/59 Industrial Park.
Ward 1 Councilman George Thomas said he expects councilmen to pay the East Central Planning and Development District Inc. up to $25,000 for help with the development of the park.
Councilmen met today at 9 a.m. to vote on that and other issues.
Thomas said the East Central Planning and Development District will help administer a $1.5 federal million grant Meridian and Lauderdale County received last year to provide water and sewer service at the industrial park.
Thomas said East Central also will help find additional money for the park.
Work on the new industrial park is expected to begin some time this year.
