Brashier introduced to Lamar School

By By Lynette Wilson / staff writer
Jan. 29, 2003
Fred Brashier met middle and high school faculty at Lamar School on Wednesday even though he doesn't take over as their principal until the next school year.
Brashier, currently serving as principal at Poplar Springs Elementary School, will inherit the middle and high school principal job from longtime friend Mac Barnes.
Brashier and Barnes coached together in Meridian public schools from 1977-1985; they often call each other "coach." Barnes will devote his time to the school's character education program.
Brashier, 53, is in his fifth year as principal of Poplar Springs. He submitted his resignation to the Meridian School Board two weeks ago.
Brashier said he doesn't expect to see much of a difference between public and private schools. He said he will draw his public school pension from the state and earn a salary at Lamar.
Termie Land, Lamar's headmaster, said he met Brashier this school year through Barnes.
Land said that Barnes has served the school well, but that his background is not in administration. Land said Barnes' strength is working with children.
Brashier said he needs a change.
Danny Alexander, a Lamar chemistry and physics teacher, worked with Brashier when he was vice principal at Meridian High School.
Brashier will finish the school year at Poplar Springs. He said the thing he will miss most about his current job is "the little children."
