Hairston lifts Lady Wildcats past Wayne Co.
Three out of the last four games for the Lady Wildcats have gone into overtime. The Lady Wildcats have won all three of those games including Thursday night's 47-39 overtime win over No. 6-ranked Wayne County.
Leading the Lady Wildcats all season has been senior Valencia Hairston. Hairston came up big again last night by knocking a three-pointer at 1:37 mark to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Meridian Head Coach Don Shirley said his girls seem to play well in overtime.
In overtime, the Lady Wildcats hit 6-of-10 free throws to pull away form Wayne County.

The Wildcats made it two in a row with a big victory over Wayne County 73-67 Thursday night.
Leading Coach Ernie Watson's team on the scoreboard were USM signee Jason Windom, 21 points, Cyrus McGowen, 14 points and E.J. Watson with 11 points.
The win moves Meridian to 11-10 overall and 1-2 in the division.

Bass paces Heidelberg win at Lamar
Blake Bass scored 24 points to lead Heidelberg Academy to a 62-45 win over Lamar School on Thursday night at the Raider Gym in Meridian.
The loss drops Lamar to 8-11 on the season.
The Rebels led 35-21 at the half.
Matthew Fort led Lamar with 14 points. Jace Hill added 11 points and Austin Roebuck had nine.
Assisting Blake was Dan Edwards and Kyle Johnson with 10 each.

Lady Statesmen fall to No. 10 UCA
CLEVELAND Caron Harris scored 28 points to lead 10th ranked Central Arkansas (15-2; GSC 4-2) to a 72-62 win over Delta State University (10-3; GSC 3-2) here Thursday night.
Central Arkansas shot 44 percent from the floor to earn a 33-26 lead at halftime. Leading 62-58, UCA outscored the Lady Statesmen 10-4 in final 2:45 of the game to seal the win.
Genai Walker scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Bekka Middleton also had 14 points along with nine boards.
Two Lady Statesmen scored in double figures. Tasha Watt had a season high 19 points followed by Jenny Patten's 16 and a team 16 rebounds. Emily Mabus, Janna Lyons, and Amber Gean had five rebounds.
Delta State returns to action on Monday at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn., at 5:30 p.m.
Lamar edges Copiah in soccer
The Lamar Raiders soccer team defeated Copiah Academy 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Scoring the game's lone goal was Scott Owen.
Lamar improves to 8-2-1 on the season.

Central Academy beats Victory
Central Academy out of Macon downed Victory Christian from Columbus 52-32 on Thursday night in Macon.
The win lifts Central to 17-11 on the season. The club closes out district play tonight at Sylva-Bay Academy in Bay Springs.
Megan Stokes led Central with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Olivia Reed and Linley Healey had 10 points apiece.
Victory was led by Jessica Moore with seven points.
Central lead 15-8 after one quarter and 27-22 at the half. Central used a 16-7 third quarter to take at 43-29 lead.
