Six contestants compete for 2003 Miss Carey title

HATTIESBURG Six young women will participate in the 2003 Miss Carey Pageant on Friday.
The pageant will be emceed by radio personality Bill Hickman and Jennifer Adcock, Miss Mississippi 2002.
Special entertainment will be presented by Wanda Geddie Brickner, Miss Mississippi 1983, who won that title as Miss Carey.
Gabrielle Bonner, a sophomore chemistry major, will represent the Psychology Club in the pageant.
The daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Garey Bonner of Waynesboro, she will perform "Malaguena" by Ernasto Lecuona on the piano as her talent.
Bonner's platform is "volunteering to help people with mental disabilities." She volunteers to work with children in the afternoons at the Association of Retarded Citizens House in Hattiesburg.
LaDona Ferguson will represent Delta Omicron. Ferguson will present an operatic aria entitled "In Quelle Trine Morbide."
The daughter of Mrs. Joyce Ferguson and the late Dexter Rhyne Ferguson Sr. of Laurel, her platform is "music education."
Ferguson served as a volunteer teaching music to students at Edwards Street Fellowship Center during the fall and winter trimesters. She is a junior music education major.
Andrea Godshaw will represent Student Support Services. The daughter of James and Ann Godshaw of Richton, she will sing for her talent. Godshaw's platform is "reaching out to senior adults." She is a senior business administration major.
Jennifer Kearschner will represent Sigma Tau Delta. The daughter of Janice Kearschner of Columbia, she will sing "Getting to Know You" for her talent presentation. She is a sophomore English major.
Kearshner's platform is "Riskwatch," a safety prevention education program geared to K3 through the sixth grade. She promotes this program in Columbia schools schools and plans to continue her efforts by speaking with teachers, parents and school administrators.
Andrea McMillen will represent Alpha Psi Omega. The daughter of Tim and Donna McMillen of Amory, she will sing "Broadway Baby" for her talent.
McMillen's platform is "arts in education." She plans to promote arts programs throughout Mississippi. She is a junior musical theatre major.
Jennifer Rawls will represent the Graduate Office. The daughter of Archie and Frances Rawls of Poplarville, she will play "Amazing Grace" on piano for her talent.
Her platform is "awareness and prevention of childhood obesity." A senior biology major, Rawls plans to use her platform to include exercise and nutrition education in elementary schools.
The Miss Carey Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. in the Dumas Smith Auditorium, Thomas Fine Arts Center, on the William Carey College campus.
The doors will open at 6 p.m., and tickets will be $5 each. The public is invited to attend.
