Veteran football coach Jud Gartman is about to add his name to the impressive list of coaches at Lamar School.
Gartman, who has been head football coach at Enterprise High School for the past 23 years, will join Lamar as its defensive coordinator for the 2003 season.
Gartman will be joining the staff of head coach Mac Barnes, who will be entering his third season as head coach at Lamar after a long, successful career at Meridian High School.
At the end of this school year, Gartman will be retiring from the public school system after 28 years.
He began his career as an assistant at West Lauderdale for two years, then became head coach of the Knights for three more seasons. His overall record as a head coach is 181-109-4 and includes state championships at Enterprise in 1986 (Class 1A) and 1987 (Class 2A).
Gartman will join assistant high school coach Will McNeil and junior high coach Brock Angle on the football coaching staff.
The position came open when Lamar assistant coach Doyle Bryan accepted the job as head football coach at Winston Academy.
