University of Mississippi Chancellor Robert Khayat is expected to talk about higher education funding at an East Mississippi Business Development Corp. breakfast meeting on Tuesday.
The event will be at 7:30 a.m. at Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus on Highway 19 North, part of the economic development organization's Business Before Hours gathering.
EMBDC President Wade Jones said Khayat's visit to Meridian is important because the city has three major medical centers about 90 miles east of the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson.
Bill Crawford, president of The Montgomery Institute in Meridian, said he expects Khayat will speak about funding for Mississippi's eight state-supported universities.
Khayat was named chancellor of Ole Miss in 1995, replacing Gerald Turner, who had been the chancellor since 1984. Turner moved on to become president of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Khayat is a law professor, a former university administrator and a former college and professional football player.
He has said his goals for Ole Miss are academic excellence, accountability, fairness and openness. His administration also has improved and expanded the university's buildings and grounds.
