Southeast drops one in tourney

Southeast battled Long Beach until the very end, but couldn't overcome a Latoya Carson and a bad second quarter.
The Lady Bearcats moved to 16-1 on the season with a 75-70 victory over Southeast in the Enterprise Tournament on Friday night.
In other action on Friday, the Clarkdale girls beat Stringer 52-30 while the Clarkdale boys fell to Stringer 75-73 in overtime. The Tigers of Southeast finished the night with a 66-57 win over Long Beach.
Today, Long Beach will face Clarkdale at 6 p.m. in the girls' championship game while Stringer and Southeast will face off in the boys' championship game at 7:30.
In the Southeast girls' game, Pringle scored the first eight points of the game for the Lady Tigers as Southeast jumped out to an 12-6 lead. Long Beach answered with a 12-0 run to take an 18-12 lead with 2:23 left in the first. The Lady Bearcats held a 22-21 lead after the first.
Southeast struggled in the second quarter and was outscored 18-6 as Long Beach took a 40-27 halftime lead.
The Lady Bearcats led 56-42 after the third quarter, but Southeast began to make a run. Southeast cut the lead down to five points with 3:03 left to play after Sam Smith scored six points on 6-0 run.
The Lady Tigers got two free throws from LaShondra Hall and a basket by Ree Newell with 1:06 left to play to cut the lead down to one point. Carson made four free throws down the stretch and Marcia Levens hit two more to help Long Beach secure the 75-70 win.
Carson finished the game with 34 points to lead Long Beach while Delicia McClora scored 17. Southeast fell to 12-4 on the season with the loss. Smith scored 23 points for the Lady Tigers in the loss. Pringle scored 18 and Hall added 16.

Southeast used a big second half to come back to beat Long Beach on Friday night.
The Tigers trailed 15-3 after the first quarter and 27-18 at halftime, but came back strong in the second half.
The Tigers came out in the second half with more intensity and pressed Long Beach. The press paid off as Southeast started the second half with a 9-2 run and finished off the third quarter with a 12-5 run to take a 41-40 lead after the third quarter.
The Tigers then opened the fourth with a 9-2 run to stretch the lead to eight points. A 16-5 run later in the quarter put the game away for Southeast. Long Beach hit a couple of three-pointers against the Southeast subs to make the final score 66-57.
LaPatrick Carlisle led the Tigers with 17 points while Nehemiah Nwankpah and Chris Gordon each added 13. Wayne Ulrich led Long Beach with 20 points.
Stringer boys 75
Clarkdale 73
Ryan Yawn scored with five seconds left in overtime to lead the Red Devils past Clarkdale on Friday night.
Stringer led for most of the game and stretched the lead to 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Clarkdale outscored Stringer 14-2 in the final three minutes of the game and Shannon Howley hit a three-pointer as time expired to tie the game at 64 and send the game to overtime.
In overtime, the two teams traded baskets and a basket by Brandon Mabry with 50 seconds left for Clarkdale tied the game at 73-73. After running most of the time off the clock, Yawn hit a shot in the lane with five seconds remaining to give Stringer the victory.
Clarkdale girls 52
Stringer 30
After scoring only 22 points on Thursday night, the Lady Bulldogs went off for 52 points to take a 52-30 win over Stringer on Friday night.
Clarkdale outscored Stringer 11-2 in the second quarter to take a 19-9 lead at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs then outscored Stringer in the final two quarters to take the victory.
Felicia Kirksey led Clarkdale with 23 points and Danielle Gibbs scored 13. Alphaka Moore led Stringer with 20 points in the loss.
