Mississippi Department of Transportation officials have decided to hold off taking bids to renovate the weigh stations on Interstate 20/59 near Kewanee, east of Meridian. The original plans called for accepting bids this past Tuesday.
Brad Lewis, an MDOT construction engineer in Jackson, said the project will not be advertised for bids until January.
Lewis declined to give specifics, other than to say there are some questions about design elements and specifications for new weigh scales, as well as the exit and entrance ramps.
The pair of weigh stations are located between the Kewanee exit and the Mississippi-Alabama line.
MDOT officials have said plans call for demolishing the stations and building new facilities. Both stations are closed.
Lewis said the project is scheduled to be completed by April 12, 2005.
