Enterprise blasts Bassfield

The Enterprise Bulldogs used an explosive ground attack to defeat the Bassfield Yellowjackets by a final score of 41-16. The Bulldogs improved their overall record to 7-2 and 3-1 in Division 7-2A play. The best Enterprise can now finish in the divisional race is second place thanks to a Taylorsville win over Seminary by a score 32-21.
The Bulldogs travel to Seminary next week in a key divisional showdown that with the winner taking second place in the district.
Enterprise started the game off on the right foot with a great defensive stop to force the Yellowjackets into a punting situation. The Bulldogs took the ball and scored on 26 yard run by quarterback Adam Simpson to give Enterprise the quick lead over Bassfield. The extra point missed wide left by Michael Swancey and the Bulldogs held a 6-0 lead with 9:25 remaining in the first quarter. After another impressive stop on defense the Bulldogs took the ball on offense again.
Bassfield however came up with a huge fumble recovery that was returned 62 yards by Marcus Pitts that tied the game at 6-6 after a failed PAT with 7:02 left in the first. On the very next possession the Bulldogs turned the ball over on yet another fumble and Derrick Lowe came up with the ball for Bassfield. The Yellowjacket drive stalled and five plays later the Bulldogs scored their second touchdown of the evening on a three-yard run by Kelly Jimmerson. The two-point conversion was successful and Enterprise secured a 14-6 edge with 1:47 left in the first quarter.
Bassfield went to work on offense and the Bulldogs quickly ended the drive paced by a sack from John Arrington. "Our defense played well in the first half and gave our offense plenty of chances to make something happen."
Zeb Swain brought the Bulldogs another score on a 24-yard touchdown run that made the score 21-6 with 6:21 remaining in the second quarter. After an exchange of possessions Enterprise added one final score before the end of the first half. Colter Cannington scored on a short five-yard run and extended the Bulldog lead to 28-6 at the halftime break.
Enterprise wasted no time and opened the second half with an impressive drive that concluded on a one-yard touchdown run by Simpson and Wade Weathers added the PAT and gave the Bulldogs a comfortable 35-6 lead over the Yellowjackets. The Enterprise defense came up with a fumble recovery on the next Bassfield possession that ended in another touchdown for the Bulldogs. Cannington came up with the fumble and Anthony Harris did the honors and punched the ball in for the score.
Bassfield did add a pair of scores at the end of the game thanks to some great running from Derrick Lowe. Lowe scored on a 35-yard run and the Yellowjackets added a safety late in the game to bring the final score to 41-16. The Bulldogs had 348 yards of total offense behind 301 yards on the ground. Simpson was the leading rusher for Enterprise on four carries for 78 yards and a pair of scores. Arrington paced the defensive attack for Enterprise with five tackles and Michael Clark also had five tackles in the win.
