    Patrician hosts region foe Friday

By By Jeff Byrd / staff writer
    Sept. 26, 2002
Patrician Academy is back home in Butler, Ala., this week after a tough trip to Mobile last week.
The Saints suffered six turnovers, four lost fumbles and two interceptions, in a 26-7 loss to Mobile Christian. The loss dropped Patrician to 1-3 on the season.
On Friday, Patrician welcomes in Wilcox Academy for a Region 11-AA game in Butler. Wilcox is one of the strongest teams in the AISA AA Class. They played for the AA title last year and own an 8-7 win over Sumter Academy in week two of this season.
Patrician will be led by running back Allen Gibson who had 65 yards off 15 carries against Mobile Christian. The score was set up by a 70-yard kickoff return by Brandon Mosley. Roel Bekkers had the PAT kick.
Defensively, Patrician is led by Gibson, Russell Cheatham ad Brian Anderson. Gibson had seven tackles last week while Cheatham and Anderson had four each.
    South Choctaw Academy
    at Southern Academy
South Choctaw took a hard defeat at the hands of Sumter Academy, 27-7, last week in York, Ala. The loss drops the Rebels to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Region II-AA play.
SCA heads to Greensboro this week for another Region II game.
At York, the Rebels lone score came on a 27-yard fumble return by Dusty Johnson. Rob Dahlberg had the kick.
The Rebels offense was hurt by the rain. Dalhberg was able to complete just three passes for 28 yards. Justin Bonner led the way with 80 yards rushing off 10 carries. Landis Herndon had 67 yards off 10 carries.
The SCA defense continues to be paced by Angelo Downey who had eight solos and three assists against Sumter. Justin McInnis had eight stops while Bradley Herndon totaled six tackles and one assist.
    Demopolis
    at Choctaw County
Choctaw County steps out of Region 1-4A play to take on visiting Demopolis this Friday in Butler, Ala.
The Tigers are 0-4 on the season but have played an extremely tough schedule. The team has lost to Southern Choctaw, ranked 2nd in Class 2A, UMS Wright, ranked in the Top 5 in 4A, and last week fell to an unbeaten Thomasville squad 24-7.
Demopolis is another strong club. They whipped Greensboro 48-14 last week.
The Tigers are led by standout defensive end Odell Williamson.
    Southern Choctaw
The Indians take a week off after running their record to 4-0 with a 52-3 pounding of Georgiana last week.
Quarterback Bernard McGrew passed for 99 yards and ran for 95 in the rout. He scored on touchdown runs of 7, 25 and 15 yards. He also had a 33-yard TD pass to Terrell McGrew.
Detric Causey had 100 yards rushing including an 80-yard TD run. JoJo Dozier, Duke Hill and Johnny Williamson also scored for the Indians.
Southern Choctaw, ranked 2nd in Class 2A in Alabama, returns to action Oct. 4 when Washington County visits.
    A.L. Johnson at
    Livingston
The Cougars return home Friday night to host 1A A.L. Johnson. Livingston is 1-3 after last week's 48-6 loss to a very good Dallas County team in Selma.
    Sumter County
    at Holt
Sumter County stays on the road this week, traveling to Holt. The Wildcats are 1-3 on the season after falling to Northside High School out of Tuscaloosa 36-12 last week.
Sumter got touchdowns from Chris Walker who caught an 81-yard pass from Reynundo Sturdivant while Codarian Wilson had a two-yard run.
    Pickens Academy
    at Sumter Academy
Fresh off a 27-7 win over rival South Choctaw Academy, the Eagles will be back at home in York on Friday when Pickens Academy visits.
The SCA win improved Sumter to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in Region II-AA play.
The team is led by center Wayne Malone, and running backs Chase Schroeder, and quarterback Roy McDaniel.
